Bury St Edmunds is named after the Saxon king, Edmund, who was killed in 869 A.D. by the Danes and who is buried there
King John was forced by the Barons of England to accept the Charter of Liberties which was the precursor to the Magna Carta in the Abbey Church in 1214
St Mary's Church is where Mary Tudor, Queen of France and Henry VIII's sister, was re-buried six years after her death. A stained glass window was fitted in commemoration of her by Queen Victoria
